Large-Scale Extension Proposed at Kilkock Nursing Home

An application has been lodged for a 68 bed residential elderly care facility specialising in the care of residents suffering from Dementia and Alzheimer’s at Mountpleasant Lodge Nursing Home. The proposed extension has been designed and customised for this specific category of resident and includes therapy suites, multisensory rooms, customised dining/sitting/day space, specialised landscaped external recreational space, sanitary and ancillary accommodation.



Permission granted for nursing home in Rathangan Demense, Co. Kildare

Permission has been granted for a 53 bed nursing home and ten associated shelter housing units in Rathangan Demesne Rathangan Co Kildare (subject to conditions).  The proposed development involved a new road access junction, access road and roundabout from R401 Kildare/Rathangan public road and a sewage pumping station connected to local authority system.

Material Contravetion under consideration for Nursing home at Rathangan Demesne

Kildare County Council is considering granting permission for a development which will consist of a 53 bed nursing home plus ten associated shelter housing units and assocaited site infrastructure at Rathangan Demesne, Rathangan, Co. Kildare.

The development would contravene materially Section 6.7.6 – OD1 of the County Development Plan 2005-2011 which states:

“Apart from housing development there are other land uses which may be considered in the rural countryside.  Where an area is not within an identifiable settlement and is not otherwise zoned as part of this Development Plan or of any of the Town Development Plans the use of such land will be deemed to be primarily agricultural.”

Busy end of year for planning applications in Kildare

Apart from an application to extend the Supervalue in Athy, January proved to be a quiet month in terms of large-scale applications lodged with the Council and decisions emanating from the Council.  The run up to the Christmas holiday period was quite busy however with a number of interesting applications lodged in Kildare and the two town councils. 


Superquinn lodged an application for a large-scale development encompassing a new supermarket and 8 screen cinema off the Limerick Road (Newbridge Rd).

An application was lodged with Athy town Council for a large retail unit with ancillary retail units and cafe at Cois na Habhainn & former Batchelor’s factory, Rathstewart, Athy.
